Cheddar Bay Biscuits

Prep: 10 minutes
Cook time: 13-15 minutes @ 400 degrees
Yields: 10-12

Ingredients:

Biscuits:
2 1/2 cups Bisquick
4 tablespoons cold butter
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
3/4 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Butter Glaze:
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
3/4 teaspoon dried parsley flakes

Kosher salt

Directions:
Cut cold butter into Bisquick.  Once combined add cheese, milk and garlic powder.  Mix with hand until just incorporated.  Place 1/4 cup size biscuits on greased or parchment paper lined cookie sheet.  Place biscuits in the oven and bake for 13-15 minutes or until golden brown.

I am not a big fan of biscuits.  I find them plain and dry.  Usually the only time I eat them is with biscuits and gravy.  Years ago I went to Red Lobster and had their biscuits.  They were the best biscuit I ever had.  I thought,"this is a biscuit I can like."  That was my first and last time to have them.  Then when I was pregnant with my son I was craving them but never went to the restaurant to get some.  Recently, I stumbled across this recipe and knew I had to make them. One, because I still remember the cravings when I was pregnant, and two, because I wanted to see if they tasted like the real thing.  They were delicious!

Some people might look at the recipe and say, "No way am I making these with Bisquick."  Feel free to use your own biscuit recipe.  I keep Bisquick (Heart Healthy) on hand for some of my quick fix meals.
When I was cutting the butter into the Bisquick I didn't want to deal with the forks and I don't have a fancy little tool to do it.  Instead, I used my hands.  I figured they were going to get messy anyways.  Why not from the start?  :)  There will be little balls of butter in the dough.  Just make sure they are pea size or less.  I measured all my biscuits to the 1/4 cup size.  I got 10 biscuits.  The recipe says it will make 12, but they probably were not measuring each biscuit.  Once the biscuits are in the oven start making the butter glaze.  I put my butter glaze on after 5 minutes of baking.  My biscuits baked for a total of 15 minutes.  There was only one ingredient I changed slightly.  I was out of dried parsley, but I had fresh parsley already chopped and ready to go in my fridge so I figured it would still work.  I added a rounded tablespoon of fresh parsley.  Once they were golden brown I immediately took them out and sprinkled with kosher salt.  Don't forget the salt!  It really ties all the ingredients together and makes these a home run.

I was so excited to make these for my husband, but when he came home from work he had fast food in his hand.  What?!?  He ruined his appetite for dinner.  :(  I was pretty sad, because I thought he was going to love them (pending they turned out). He did like them, but he was full from his "snack".  I really really liked these biscuits.  I definitely will make them again and again.  Who wants a boring biscuit when you can have these?
