Italian Turkey Sliders with Honey Dijon Mayo

Slider with sweet potato fries
Bake Time: 15-20min @ 350 degrees

Ingredients:

20 ounces lean ground turkey
2 tablespoons shredded Parmesan cheese
1 clove of garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon salt
fresh ground pepper
dinner or slider rolls
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon honey dijon mustard**

Directions: Combine turkey, cheese, garlic, and seasoning together.  Mix well.  Shape into small patties and place on greased baking sheet.  Bake for about 10-20 minutes (pending the size of patties).  Flip patties half way through.  While cooking mix mayonnaise and mustard and place it back in the refrigerator to keep cold.  Toast slider buns if desired.
**if you don't have honey mustard on hand like me, make your own with dijon and honey.  Then make it to taste.

As a kid I never ate ground tukey.  Turkey was for Thanksgiving and lunchmeat at our house.  Ground turkey always seemed "weird" to me, yet growing up on venison, elk, lots of seafood, and other occasional game (moose sausage...YUM!) didn't.   Go figure!  So I entered the "strange" world of ground turkey about a year ago and haven't looked back since.

This recipe is quick, simple, and yummy.  I love the little sliders.  The meat alone is very bland, even with the spices.  It is the mayo spread that makes it.   Do not skip it.  I also prefer to toast the buns, but that is mainly because it gives it a little crunch and my husband is a butter toasted bread fanatic.  There is no way I got 16 sliders from this like the original recipe says.  Maybe if I had teeny weeny buns, but I had small dinner roll size.  Personally, I think they taste better with a firmer bun.  I had been getting small ciabatta dinner buns at Target and they have always been great with them.  Now that we live out in the country, that 3 minutes to Target is now 30 minutes.  Ugh!  Pending what buns I get I make my patties to their size.  No one wants a little burger and a lot of bun.

I love to try new things in cooking and go outside our normal.  To some turkey meat is normal, but to me it wasn't.  Now, I prefer it over red meat.  I challenge myself to make one new thing a week.  It has been a lot of fun and a great way to introduce our kids to new flavors and textures.  Hopefully you all enjoy these as much as my family does.
